Christmas Blocks

I’ve finally had a chance to make a set of Christmas blocks.  I had seen a set in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini catalog but hadn’t had the chance try it.  I didn’t have everything they used so, I improvised!

My first tip to you would be to use a primer on these blocks!  I can’t tell you how many coats I put on, and it still didn’t look right.  I ended up adhering Whisper White cardstock instead.  After sanding the edges and corners you can’t even tell it’s paper.  They really do look like they were painted.

This view is of the opposite side of the blocks.  I couldn’t do just one side, it looked too plain!  I still haven’t finished decorating some of the side panels, so I don’t have any pics of that.

The Decor Elements made this project so easy!  I also used some pieces from the Christmas Jingle Simply Scrappin’ kit.  It took me longer to figure out what to put where than it did to actually make it.

I was trying to figure out why it takes me so long to create anything and then I realized it must be my helpers causing the delays…..

P1080778_edited-1 P1080758_edited-1

Not only do they take over my stamp table, they take over my chair too!  I can shoo them off, but as soon as I turn around, they are right back.

It’s a wonder that I get anything done.  :0)

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

Family Stamping

I’ve finally brought someone from my family over to the Dark Side!

My son, Daniel, wanted a going away card for a girl he knows at work, but he didn’t like anything I had already made.  He really liked the reindeer card I’d made for club, so he decided to modify it for his friend.

It was his idea to add the tears and turn the song book into a menu. As you can tell, he works for Ted’s Montana Grill. :0)

He made this entire card, including the sponging on all the punch pieces.  He agonized over getting the tears just so!  Below are pictures of him working on it, for those of you who have to see it to believe it.

So, what do you ladies think?  Should he become a demonstrator or what?!?!?

Leave me a comment on whether he should sign up as a demo.  He’s going to kill me, but this was too fun to keep to myself!

Butterfly Frenzy!

I just got a email flyer from Archivers and one of the samples looked a lot like our “Inspired by Nature” stamp set.  What a terrific example of how great Stampin’ Up! stamps are!   So great, that other companies are “copying” our ideas!  They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery…

Anyway, I had to copy them.  When I saw the butterflies, I knew I had to use the new butterfly embosslit coming out in the Occasion mini (Jan 5th).

This was literally a 5 minute card!  Now, give me some time and who knows what more I could do with it!  Don’t you just love these butterflies?  They are just too cute.

  • Stamps – Inspired by Nature
  • Ink – Old Olive and Bermuda Bay classic ink
  • Paper – Whisper White & Bermuda Bay
  • Accessories – Beautiful Wings embosslit, 2-Way glue pen

I have a lot of great classes and events coming up this year, be sure to sign up for a class or two and join the fun!

December Stamp Club

Last club of the year!  :0(  Not only was this the last club of the year, it is also the end of an era with my long term club members….  I’ve done sold them everything.  lol!  All of these ladies have been stamping with me for over 3 years!  They tell me I’ll still see them, that they want to come to classes and such, but it just won’t be the same.

I just want to say thank you to them.  THANK YOU!  You have made my journey with Stampin’ Up! a joy.  You girls have encouraged me, supported me, and bought lots of stuff from me!  :0)  I wouldn’t be a Senior Supervisor today if it weren’t for ya’ll.

Although these ladies won’t be in Stamp Club this go around, Stamp Club will still go on.  So, I have lots of openings and you need to come join me for the fun.

Below is a gift I made for my ladies.  I decorated these candle holders with little flowers stamped in Stazon White around the rim and then I ran Sticky Strip around the middle and rolled it in Red Duo Beads.  They came out looking very cute.  My son took these pictures.  They turned out much better than mine!

P1090004_edited-1 P1090008_edited-1

For their final projects they made a reindeer punch card.  I’ve seen it all over the place, but copied it from my upline, Mandy Grant, who had already made one.P1090040_edited-1

They also punched out a second one and adhered it to a piece of 6 x 6 cardstock so they would have a pattern for making more.

For their second project they made a set of 4 note cards.  Normally we make only one card, but hey, it’s Christmas, and I was shamelessly trying to entice them into signing up for another 6 months!

These are made out of the 3 1/2 x 5 Whisper White notecards in the catalog.  I love that they come pre-scored and with envelopes.  It makes for quick easy cards.  I openly stole this card idea from my up, up, up, up….line.  She sent it to me when I was promoted to Senior Supervisor.

I purchased the buttons during Stampin’ Up!’s big sale and thought this was a perfect time to use them.

  • Stamps:  Circle Circus, Thank You Kindly
  • Ink:  Crushed Curry, Sahara Sand, & Soft Suede classic ink
  • Paper:  3 1/2 x 5 Whisper White Notecards
  • Accessories:  Summer Sun & Chocolate Chip Corduroy buttons, Old Olive taffeta from the Mistletoe Ribbon Originals, Mini glue dots

Thanks for stopping by!

If you liked the reindeer card I’ll be starting a Punch Art class in January!  Look for details in an upcoming post!

Christmas Party Favors

Every year we have a Christmas Dinner for the ladies of the church, and this year I offered to make a little gift for everyone that attended.  The number attending started out at 85 but quickly went up to 106!  Let me tell you, there is a big difference between 85 and 106…..If it wasn’t for my friends, Eve and Doneine, and my son, Daniel, I never would have finished on time.  Both Eve and Doneine spent a day with me working on these.  My son was up most of the night before the dinner with me helping to put them all together.  He was a great sport and did a wonderful job.  I think he’s missed his calling!  :0)

This is what my table looked like for a couple of days.  My son said it looked like the Cookie Monster threw up all over the table!

Here are some close-ups of the favor.  It’s a bookmark, purse fob, or Christmas ornament.  :0)

My sample was made with Real Red and Old Olive.  The “thousands” of others were Real Red and Garden Green!

I found an online company that sold small magnets that are super strong.  The more you buy, the cheaper it gets.  I bought 250 which came out to be approximately .07 per piece.  I used a glue dot to adhere the magnet under the ribbon, on each side.  They held great, even through the ribbon.

  • Ink:  Real Red & Whisper White craft ink
  • Paper:  Whisper White, Garden Green, Real Red & Chocolate Chip card stock
  • Stamps:  Snow Swirled (snowflake), Season of Joy (little flower)
  • Accessories:  Jumbo Grommets Whisper White.  I’m so glad there are things I can bulk order as a demonstrator! 3/4 Polka-dot grosgrain ribbon, Scallop Oval & Circle punch, Wide Oval punch, Horizontal Slot punch, Pennant Bigz XL die, Clear embossing powder, Crystal Effects, Mini glue dots, Dimensionals

Thanks for looking!

Christmas Fun

I love the fact that all of the Stampin’ Up! catalogs have such great samples.  I don’t have to think up a thing!  I copied this wreath from the Holiday Mini Catalog (pg 24).  Of course I changed it a little and made it my own.

I had some wire left from a previous project and made a 6” circle to tie the ribbon too.  I tied on ribbon until I felt it was full enough and then added buttons using mini glue dots.  This is a real simple wreath but it takes a lot of ribbon!

  • Old Olive 5/8” grosgrain ribbon (109054)
  • 3/4” Polka-Dot grosgrain ribbon (115608)
  • Designer Buttons – Playground (116313)
  • Mini Glue Dots (103683)

My wonderful friend and upline Mandy Grant told me how to make these really cute ornaments.  These were so easy even my 7 year old daughter made one!  Using your Stampin’ Up! reinkers put about 40-50 drops of ink (depending on the size of the ornament) in each ornament.  You can pick up clear glass ornaments at craft and discount stores.  Role ornament until the entire inside is covered with ink and then put about 1-2 teaspoons of  Stampin’ Glitter.  Replace cap and shake ornament until glitter covers the inside of the ornament.  Let dry and your done!

  • Stampin’ Up! Classic Ink reinkers
  • Stampin’ Glitter – Chunky or Fine* depending on the look you want

*The “Fine” glitter is a little fussy to work with but definitely worth it!  The ornaments pictured above were made with the Fine Cosmos glitter (108796)

Occasions Mini Catalog & Sale-a-bration Catalog coming soon!  I’ve received my copy already and I can’t tell you how awesome they are.  There are so many new things coming that I’ve lost count.  I’ll be posting a sneak peek of what’s coming up over the next couple of weeks.

November Club Projects

The holidays are just around the corner and you’re either having thoughts of Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas decorations, parties, twinkling lights, wonderful music, or you’re dreading all the extra things that are going to be added to your list of things to do!

I’ve decided to remember all that I’m thankful for, to contemplate the true gift of the season, to think of Christ’s loving sacrifice for my soul, and to attempt to be a light in someone else's life, day, or moment.

I’ve also decided to make the Christmas cards I can make without worrying about if it is 10, 20 or 100.  To have fun decorating our tree and the house with my family is a gift in itself, not a chore.

Above all, I want to do all of these things with a sense of wonder and anticipation of God’s boundless gifts.  If it should start becoming “things to get done” on a checklist, well, that’s when I’ll quit and just enjoy the moment.

Well, enough Deep Thoughts by Lisa Vale!  :0)

Below is the card we made at November clubs.  You can’t really see the technique, but take my word for it, it looks wonderful! I don’t know if the technique has a name, but we’ll call it “Painting with Crystal Effects”.  The ornament on the right is stamped with Old Olive craft ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.  The ornament on the left is stamped in Basic Black craft ink and clear embossed also.  You could use black embossing powder, but I find that I end up with specks of black everywhere, even when I use my Embossing Buddy!  The red part of the ornament is our technique.  Take your Real Red re-inker and place an amount about the size of a dime on top of a stamp box or other plastic surface (something that you can wipe off or the ink won’t soak into).  Add another dime size amount of Crystal Effects.  Mix with a paint brush and paint in your image.  This mixture won’t dry right away so you have some time to play with it.  If you clean your brush right after you’re done, you’ll have a brush for next time.  Just wash it with warm water and soap.  However, it will stain your brush, so I wouldn’t use one near and dear to your heart, but at least you won’t have to throw it away when you’re done.

This project will take some time to dry so plan on letting it sit over night to insure it’s completely dry.  When it dries it’ll remain shiny and looks almost like stained glass.  It’s a really pretty effect.  I’m going to try it on vellum and see how that turns out.

Stamp Sets:  Tree Trimmings (116722), A Cardinal Christmas (111760)

Paper:  Old Olive, Basic Black, and Whisper White cardstock

Ink:  Black Stazon, Old Olive & Basic Black craft ink, versamark pad

Accessories:  3/4 Polka-Dot grosgrain ribbon, clear embossing powder, Stamp-a-ma-jig.

P1080727_edited-1  P1080726_edited-1

I saw this made at a Stampin’ Up! regional in Chattanooga this year.  It looks much harder to make than it is!  I used the Scallop Envelope bigz die to make this.  You gotta love the BigShot.  It made this project so easy.  I’m already thinking about a Christmas one, oooh, and Easter, and birthdays….Uh oh, I’d better get crackin’!

All you need to do is cut 8 scallop envelopes and glue them together by their flaps, in one straight line. Adhere either end together to form the box.  Place a 6 3/8 square piece of cardstock down in the middle.  This makes it really easy to square the box.  Adhere to bottom flaps and decorate. This makes the perfect size holder for regular sized napkins.

Stamp Set:  Falling Leaves

Ink:  Soft Suede classic ink, versamark pad

Paper:  Really Rust, More Mustard, Always Artichoke, & Summer Sun card stock

Accessories:  1/2 Polka-Dot Soft Suede grosgrain ribbon, Hemp Twine, Mini glue dots (lots), Ticket & Horizontal Slot punches, Dies: Scallop Envelope, Lots of Tags, & Leaves #2, Dimensionals

Remember – No pressure this season.  What gets done, gets done.  What doesn’t,  didn’t really matter!  Love on someone this season, it’ll be a blessing to them and to you.  What’s more important, reaching into someone else's life and giving of yourself or making sure all the lists in your life are done?

“And that’s all I have to say about that.”  -Forrest Gump

As always, thanks for looking. :0)

Bunco – Stampin’ Up! Style

My friend and upline, Mandy Grant started Bunco night a couple of months ago.  Instead of cash prizes our cash is turned into Stampin’ Up! products and hostess benefits.  How fun is that?  A night out, having fun and laughing too much, plus the chance to order supplies with our winnings.  If that isn’t enough we also get to do a Make N’ Take!

Here are our Make N Takes from the first two months:

This was such a fun and easy card to make!  It looks way more complicated than it really was.

We used the Movers & Shakers die and the Medallion stamp to make this card.  It was super easy and super fast.

There is always room for more players……. :0)  If you’re interested, spots will be open in January.  We play the 1st Thursday of each month.  Let me know if you’d like to join.
